"All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children."  Isaiah 54:13

WELCOME:

Thank you for choosing St. John the Evangelist Parish for your child's faith formation.

St. John the Evangelist Parish is a wonderful family – rich in relationships that matter most. In our Faith Formation Program, we can grow, worship, learn, and reach out to each other in what is most important: the faith formation of our children! Faith begins in the home, and the catechists who volunteer in our programs are committed to helping parents form their young children in the ways and teachings of Jesus.

At Baptism, parents promise to accept the responsibility of training their children in the practice of the Catholic faith and teaching them to keep God's commandments by loving God and our neighbors. To help keep this promise, your children should be registered in our parish faith formation program if they do not attend a Catholic school. Students participate in the Confirmation Program in both 9th and 10th grade regardless of the high school they attend. We pray that you will also take an active role in nurturing and developing the gift of faith in your children as a family. Raising them to love and follow Jesus and his church is the greatest gift you can give them - one that will lay the foundation for their faith and remain in their hearts for a lifetime.

A two-year preparation is required for receiving the sacraments of Penance and Eucharist. These sacraments typically take place in the 2nd grade. In order to properly know their faith, children should complete eight years in our faith formation program before moving into the Confirmation program.

Though not required, Kindergarten classes are an excellent way for young children to begin learning about God and His love for us.  Our Kindergarten program is entitled: “God Made the World.” The sessions take place on Sunday mornings from 10:15-11:15am. Through activities, music, videos, and prayer students will learn about the many gifts God gives us.  Class size is limited, so please register soon!

We invite you to prayerfully consider joining us as volunteers in the very important and rewarding work of your child’s faith formation.

Welcome to St. John the Evangelist Parish!

Sincerely,

Nancy T. Cunniff

Director of Faith Formation and Liturgy

Mass Attendance

If we define catechesis as echoing the faith in one’s own life by sharing it with others, then Sunday Mass becomes the ultimate experience of such learning. There is nothing that we do as “church,” that doesn’t have its origin in the Sunday Mass. For, the liturgy is the “source and summit” of our faith. It is what makes us truly Catholic.  On Sunday morning, students and families can attend Mass either before (9:00 am Mass) or after class (11:30 am Mass).

Class Mass Program

In an effort to help make celebrating the Mass more meaningful to our students and families, each grade level (Grades K-8) will be responsible for the ministries at the 9 AM Sunday Mass during the Faith Formation school year. Students will review the ministry they are assigned during their Religious Education class the week prior to the Mass. Parents will receive an email to remind them of the upcoming Class Mass.  The families will be responsible for bringing their students to Mass and celebrate the liturgy with their children.

In forming our children in the faith, it is essential that they experience weekly Mass. The transforming power of Eucharist, where Christ is truly present, cannot be taught in any classroom but must be experienced by each individual as they grow in faith.

The Mass schedule at St. John’s is as follows: Saturday Vigil Masses at 4:00 pm; Sunday morning Masses at 7:30, 9:00, and 11:30 am.

Volunteers Needed to Share the Good News!

"We give thanks to God always for all of you, remembering you in our prayers, unceasingly calling to mind your work of faith and labor of love and endurance in hope of our Lord Jesus Christ."  1 Thessalonians 1:2-3

What is a Catechist?

The word catechist comes from the Greek word "echo". Catechists echo the Word of God to our parish children. They come from all walks of life and all ages: women, men, confirmed teenagers, parents, grandparents, and singles. Catechists are not professional teachers or brilliant theologians. They are ordinary people, who generously volunteer their time to share our Catholic faith, values, and traditions with our youngest parishioners. They are positive role models who help children grow in faith and spirituality. Their gift of sharing their faith has tremendous value because through their words and actions, the message of Christ continues to spread throughout the world.

Our volunteers are one of our greatest assets and we are very grateful for the gift of themselves, their time, and talent. Do you feel called to help pass on the faith to our young children? We welcome more of our parents, guardians and confirmed teens to be catechists, co-catechists, or assistants in our Faith Formation Program.  All teachers are given instruction and a teacher’s guide to lead the classes. If you want to help, please contact Nancy T. Cunniff, Director of Faith Formation via the button on the right.

There are also opportunities to assist in the program as substitute teachers, hall monitors, tutors, and office assistants during class times.

Confirmation Program

The Religious Education Program here at St. John's includes children in Grades K thru 8. Grades 9 and 10 are part of our Confirmation Program. For information on our Confirmation Program, follow the link at right.

Childrens' Safety Program

We need people to be trained in presenting the Children's Safety program for grades 1 through 6. This is a wonderful opportunity to empower children so that they will be safe in any situation that may harm them.  Please contact the Director of Faith Formation, by using the contact button at the top of this page, if you can help with the religious education safety program.
